Octavio Contreras, a vibrant soul with a heart full of love and a voice that could touch the heavens, passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2024, in Lubbock, Texas.

Visitation will be held from 1pm to 5pm on Monday, July 22, 2024, at Eternity Funeral Home. Rosary will be recited by the Cursillastas at 7pm on Monday, July 22, 2024, at St. Agnes Catholic Church.

Celebration of Life Mass will be held at 10am on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at St. Agnes Catholic Church with Fr. Francis Njoku officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Stockton Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Eternity Funeral Home.

Born on July 2, 1958, in Mijoma, Mexico, to Juan Contreras and Trinidad Olivas, Octavio was a shining light to all who knew him. With a personality larger than life, Octavio had a laugh and a voice that could command a room's attention. His passion for cooking, particularly his famous asado and chivo, brought people together around the dinner table. But it was his faith and his music that truly defined him.

Octavio was deeply devoted to the Cursillo movement, serving on teams and helping to facilitate life-changing retreats. For over a decade, his powerful voice lifted spirits as he sang at Mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish. In times of sorrow, Octavio brought comfort to many, lending his voice to the celebration of numerous funerals. He was also an active member of the A.C.T.S. community.

Octavio is survived by his loving wife, Arcelia Contreras; his children, Mayra (Cesar) Bejarano, Octavio (Juanita) Contreras Jr, Moises (Nayeli) Contreras, and Brandon Contreras; his grandchildren, Alianah Contreras, Zadrian Contreras, Avianah Contreras, Francisco Alvarez, Adlai Arrieta, and Ariad Arrieta; and his sister, Maria Contreras Saenz.

He was preceded in death by his, parents Juan and Trinidad Contreras, brother, Moises Contreras, and his sister, Eloisa Hinojosa.

Pallbearers will be Juan Guerra, Saul Palma, Luis Orona, Carlos Barrios, Chon Melendez, Lupe Fabela, and Samuel Saenz.

Octavio's life was a testament to the power of faith, and family. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
