Jesus "Chuy" Cardona, 75, of Sanderson, TX reunited with his wife Jessie on Thursday, May 23, 2024, after almost two months.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, June 1st, 2024, from 11am to 2pm at the High School Auditorium with a Sharing of Memories Service.

Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 1st, 2024, at 2pm . A burial will follow at Santa Rita Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Eternity Funeral Home.

Chuy was born on May 11, 1949, to Teodoso Cardona and Blaza S. Cardona in Del Rio, TX. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sanderson. At the age of 38 he married the love of his life, Maria De Jesus "Jessie" on April 30, 1979, in Sanderson, Texas. He took her under his wing along with four children: Jesus Rodriguez, Eloisa Rodriguez, Jimmy Rodriguez and Mark Rodriguez.

Chuy has always been a hard worker and always willing to lend a helping hand. Many times, he was there to help you because you weren't doing it right and he was going to show you a better way of doing it. He was always ready to help with every Road Race Event, Fourth of July Celebration, Cinco de Mayo, and Easter. He would come with a pocket full of easter eggs saying "mira no se hallaron estos" and laugh away. I can still hear him. He made sure everything was cleaned up and put away at the Courthouse Lawn during and after events.

Some of his past time favorites included making his rounds around town making sure everyone was ok, a visit to Stripes or Town & Country as he would still call it, to buy lotto scratch off tickets, drink coffee and visit with all who would give him the time. My mom was always ready to go shopping at Wal-Mart and he was ready to go see who he would run into at Wal-Mart to visit with. As busy as he always was, he always made time for some old shows such as Gun Smoke, Wagon Train, and Bonanza to name a couple.

Despite his hearing disability, he made himself understood as we all quickly learned the "Chuy" language.

Chuy began working in construction jobs and soon after decided he would apply for a position with Terrell County ISD as a Custodian. He did that for many years and since then has been the biggest Sanderson Eagle Fan!

After many years with Terrell County ISD he decided to change it up a bit and apply for a position with PCSI Sanderson Border Patrol Sector. During his time with PCSI Chuy befriended many Border Patrol Agents and staff. He loved them all, but his all-time favorite was Thad Cleveland "El Mayor" as he would call him.

For a time, there he also helped Sherriff Chel Duarte with D&D Ice Company, delivering ice in town and surrounding areas.

After many years with PCSI, Chuy decided he would retire and end employment with them. However, as we all know, he never really retired. You could see him all over town either cleaning someone's yard or just helping them fix something at their house. Well, he soon made his way into Sanderson Tire Center to help out Bobby Stegall. He loved being there helping and of course waiting to visit with the next person that walked in.

There is probably not a chair or table in Sanderson that Chuy did not sit on, fold, or put away. Most of the time he would do it just because he felt you needed help.

Chuy will always be remembered for his kind spirit and unwavering generosity.

May Chuy's memory live to eternity through the stories shared by those lives he touched with friendship and love.

Chuy will be dearly missed by his surviving children; Jesus Rodriguez, Eloisa Rodriguez, Jimmy Rodriguez and Mark (Elizabeth) Rodriguez, Alicia Valadez Cardona; grandchildren Gabriel Rodriguez, Charles Zapata, Nicolas Zapata, Kimberly Zapata, and Martin Zapata; one great grandson Lucian Grajeda Rodriguez. Siblings; Guadalupe Vasquez, Martina Cardona, Rosie Connon, Jose (Ana Maria) Cardona, Juan (Olga) Cardona. His furry pets are Butter, Boy and Baby.

He is reunited with his parents Teodoso and Blaza Cardona, his siblings Teodoso Cardona Jr. Margarita Cardona, Francisco Cardona, Felix Cardona, Jacinta Veliz and the love of his life, Jessie Cardona.

Pallbearers honored to carry Chuy will be David Lee Cardona, Charles Zapata, Joey Martinez, Jose "Pepito" Fuentez, Junior Fuentez and Thomas Estrada.

Honorary pallbearers will be Nicolas Zapata, Martin Zapata and Gabriel Rodriguez.

The family of Chuy would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the whole community of Sanderson, Sanderson Chamber of Commerce, Staff at Sanderson State Bank, Sanderson ISD, Terrell County Sheriff's Department, Terrell County EMS, Border Patrol Sector of Sanderson, Terrell County Judge Dale Carruthers, Albert & Sherri Thorn, Tom & Madge Arthur, Shelly Cleveland, St. James Catholic Church, First Presbyterian Church, Pastor Norris, and Pastor Gray, also, to all those who donated to the Go Fund Me Account and or took money to bank, for their unwavering love and support to family during this time.
