Gerardo Alba Abasta, 64, of Fort Stockton, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, October 17, 2021, in El Paso, Texas.
Visitation will be held from 11am to 8pm on Thursday, October 21, 2021, with a Prayer Service at 5pm at Eternity Funeral Home Chapel.
Life Celebration will be held at 10am on Friday, October 22, 2021, at Templo Agua Viva with Pastor Vicente Cabello officiating. Cremation will follow as means of disposition. Arrangements are under Eternity Funeral Home.
Gerardo was born on July 3, 1957, in Mapimi, Durango to Pompeyo Abasta and Audelia Alba. He moved to Fort Stockton more than twenty years ago where he met his wife Hortencia Pena. They got married on May 24, 2008, in Fort Stockton.
Gerardo worked for the school district for approximately seven years and was currently employed for the City of Fort Stockton for the last eight years. He gave his life to Jesus twenty years ago and served his Lord passionately. Gerardo was a worshipper and singer who daily devoted time to worship and prayer. He was characterized by his love and kindness and was very loved by the community.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Pompeyo and Audelia Abasta, siblings Jerson Eduardo Abasta, Juan Pompeyo Abasta, Maria Dolores Abasta and son Eduardo Abasta.
He leaves his memory to cherish to his wife Hortencia Abasta, daughters Rosenda Alvarado, Karla Verenise Abasta, Vanessa Abasta, stepchildren Rocio Hernandez, Alex Chavira, Susana Lozoya, Crystal Chavira, 21 grandchildren and the first great grand baby on the way.
Pallbearers will be his co-workers from the City of Fort Stockton, Luis Guerra, Nathaniel Franco, Jesse Barrios, Francisco Jacquez, Shane Aaron, and Carlos Contreras.

Gerardo nació el 3 de julio de 1957 en Mapimi, Durango al Sr. Pompeyo Abasta y la Sra. Audelia Alba. Se movió a la cuidad de Fort Stockton hace más de 20 años donde conoció su esposa Hortencia Pena y se unieron en matrimonio el 24 de mayo del 2008 en Fort Stockton.
Gerardo trabajo para el distrito escolar por aproximadamente 7 años y actualmente trabajo para el City de Fort Stockton por 8 años. Pero su pasión y devoción era adorar, cantar y alabar a Dios. Era un hombre muy amoroso y amado por toda la comunidad.
Se le adelantaron en el camino sus padres Pompeyo Abasta y Audelia Abasta, sus hermanos Jerson Eduardo Abasta, Juan Pompeyo Abasta, hermana Maria Dolores Abasta y su hijo Eduardo Abasta.
Le sobrevive su esposa Hortencia Abasta, hijas Rosenda Alvarado, Karla Verenise Abasta, Vanessa Abasta, hijastros Roció Hernández, Alex Chavira, Susana Lozoya, Crystal Chavira, 20 nietos y su primera bisnieta en camino.
