Candelaria Hinojos de Carrasco
March 10, 1938 – October 30, 2026
Some lives leave behind more than memories; they leave behind traditions, generations, and a love that continues long after their time on earth. Such was the life of Candelaria Hinojos de Carrasco, 88, who passed away on October 30, 2026, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her children and loved ones.
Born on March 10, 1938, in El Mezquite, a small ranching community outside Ojinaga, Chihuahua, Mexico, Candelaria was the daughter of Miguel Hinojos and Antonia Rey. Raised among the simplicity and hard work of rural life, she grew up helping her parents with the everyday responsibilities and sharing life's early lessons alongside her seven siblings. Those humble beginnings instilled in her a deep appreciation for family, hard work, and the traditions she would carry throughout her life.
Her story of love began in El Mezquite, at a community dance organized by a young man named Luis Carrasco Orona. Drawn together by music and a shared love of celebration, they began a journey that would span 67 years of marriage and companionship. Together, they built a home in Ojinaga and raised eight children, creating a family grounded in love, loyalty, integrity, and respect.
Candelaria was a devoted mother, a loving wife, and a woman whose hands were rarely still. She sewed dresses and clothing for her children, made rag dolls for her little ones, tended to her plants, and filled her home with the aromas of her cooking. Her caldo de papas with saffron was among her family's treasured memories. She loved ranchera music, dancing, a concha with a good cup of coffee, and above all, the company of those she loved. Her Catholic faith and Mexican heritage were woven into everyday life, from gathering family for Christmas Eve Mass at midnight to celebrating cultural traditions with the warmth and enthusiasm she brought to every occasion.
Her greatest pride was the family she raised. As a mother of eight, grandmother of 21, and great-grandmother of 31, she gave generously of herself and made sure those around her never went without a full belly or a loving home. Her grandchildren will fondly remember sleepovers, oversized outfits borrowed from her closet, her playful sense of humor, and the unmistakable wink that accompanied her laughter. She had a gentle way of making everyone feel welcome, and her kindness was something she shared without expecting anything in return.
She found happiness in life's simple pleasures: family gatherings, music, visits to her beloved Ojinaga, and watching new generations arrive. Even through life's greatest hardships, she carried on with a smile and a resilience that spoke quietly of her strength.
Candelaria was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Luis Carrasco Orona; her infant son, Florito; her parents, Miguel Hinojos and Antonia Rey; and her siblings, Carlota, Albina, Malena, Benita, Chon, Matías y Ezequiel Hinojos.
She leaves behind her seven surviving children, María Guadalupe López, Martín Luis Carrasco, María Montañez, Marycela Rodríguez, Antonio Carrasco, Arón Carrasco y Jesús Andrés Carrasco; 21 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who were fortunate to share in her life.
Candelaria's journey began in a small community outside of Ojinaga in Chihuahua, Mexico, but the love she cultivated reached far beyond its borders. She leaves behind more than a family; she leaves a legacy of unity, kindness, and traditions that will continue through generations. Her home may be quieter now, but the laughter, cooking, music, and love she brought into it will forever remain.
She was a daughter who cherished her roots, a wife who found her lifelong companion, a mother who gave without measure, and a grandmother who made everyone feel at home. Her greatest legacy will always be the family she leaves behind.
May she rest in eternal peace.
The family expresses their deepest gratitude to ExcelaCare Hospice of Midland for all the support, attention and care provided during this time.
