Obituary

Heaven has gained another angel. Aurelio "Al" Chalambaga, 73, of Sanderson, TX was called home to our Lord on May 8, 2022, in Odessa, TX.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2022, from 1:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.at Saint James Catholic Church, Sanderson, TX. A recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 13, 2022, at Saint James Catholic Church, Sanderson, TX with Father Francis Njoku, officiating. Burial to follow at Santa Rita Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Eternity Funeral Home.

Al was born in Sanderson, TX to Elisandro and Agapita Chalambaga on May 14, 1949. He graduated from Sanderson High School in 1967, where he was proud to be a Sanderson Eagle. He attended The University of Texas in El Paso (UTEP), where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree. He also attended Odessa College where he received a Culinary Arts Degree. He worked and retired from Firestone Test Center as well as from Lowe's Home Improvement, where he made many friends. He had a passion for Music that was contagious to everyone around him. He was a member of the Chicano Brotherhood Band, La Mania Band, Westejas Band and Al Gusto band where he played keyboard, sang, and made many lifelong friends. His favorite thing to do was play his keyboard and sing for our many family reunions. Spending time with and caring for his dogs (popi's), Aggie, Maya, and Gretta is what he loved most.

He enjoyed watching game shows and sports and was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. His compassionate spirit and generosity was known by many. He always greeted everyone with a "Como están todos¿" He was very kind, had a heart of gold, and will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his mother and father Elisandro and Agapita Chalambaga.

He is survived by his 5 siblings. He was blessed with 4 sisters and 1 brother. Natalia Fuentes and husband Enrique of Fort Stockton, Olga Pena and late husband Humberto of Odessa, Anita Maldonado and late husband Jose of Sanderson, Elvira Olivares and husband Pete of Sanderson. Sonny Chalambaga and wife Mary of Midland. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews, who knew him only as their loving Tio Al.

Pallbearers will include Henry Fuentez, Steve Fuentes, Jaime Fuentes, Carlos Pena, Joe Victor Maldonado, and John Stutes. Honorary Pallbearers will include Eric Chalambaga, Ryan Johnson, and David Segovia.

The family of Al wishes to extend our sincere thanks to his wonderful neighbor Linda Chesshire, for her devotion and unending friendship. To all the other family members who extended a helping hand for anything Al needed, but especially to loving his sisters, Natalia, Olga, Anita, and Elvira, also known as "The Golden Girls," for the many hours they spent caring for him, loving him and always ready to sing with him. "To know him was to love him."
